The middle lobe bronchus

The middle lobe bronchus originates at the medial aspect of the bronchus intermedius 2.5 cm distal to the right upper lobe take-off.

The middle lobe bronchial orifice is usually opposite from the superior segmental bronchus of the right lower lobe.

Just beyond them lie the basal segmental bronchi of the lower lobe.

The middle lobe bronchus runs obliquely downward, anterior, and slightly outward.

It divides into two segments ; lateral (B4), and medial (B5).
